During his address to the Sejm, President Andrzej Duda sharply criticized the current government of Donald Tusk, who, a year after the election, showed that his famous election promises are increasingly at odds with reality. Duda openly pointed out the government’s mistakes and negligence, especially in matters of the country’s security and development, and also pointed out the hypocrisy with which they are currently trying to present their actions as alleged achievements.
Country’s security in last place?
In his speech, President Duda emphasized how important security and modernization of the armed forces are for Poland. He recalled the strategic arms contracts and the expansion of the Territorial Defense Force, which were implemented by the United Right governments. Meanwhile, today’s authorities are trying to take credit for actions that were initiated before they took power. Signing contracts for Apache helicopters and Kleszcz transporters is only a continuation of the modernization that had already begun. Instead of showing bold initiatives, Tusk’s government is limiting itself to pinning medals on itself for the work of others.
Border defense – once they mocked, now they are changing sides
The president drew attention to the changing approach of the government to the issue of border protection. In the past, Tusk and his allies mocked the actions of the border guard and the army, supporting celebrities who insulted officers defending the border of the Republic of Poland and the European Union. Today, the same politicians who previously criticized the construction of the barrier on the border have reversed their position by 180 degrees, although they have never managed to apologize for their scandalous words and actions. Better late than never, but a political change of front will not be enough to erase previous negligence and lack of responsibility.
Tusk wants a „militant democracy” and Poles need a functioning democracy
Duda sharply criticized the government for „resolutionocracy”, i.e. an attempt to elevate resolutions to the rank of laws, which in his opinion is a real systemic heresy and a violation of the constitution. He also called the stigmatization of judges appointed in accordance with the applicable law as „neo-judges” a scandal. In his opinion, such actions are aimed at intimidating judges and introducing chaos into the legal system. The president pointed out that the democracy Tusk speaks of is more like the façade of „people’s democracy” from the times of the Polish People’s Republic than the real rule of law. In Poland, we need a well-functioning democracy, not political games and manipulation.
Lack of investment and wasted development opportunities
One of the sharpest points of Duda’s speech was criticism of the current government for neglecting key investments. The president drew attention to the delays in the implementation of projects such as the Central Communication Port, which is becoming a symbol of Poles’ dissatisfaction with the government’s actions. The state’s energy and resources, instead of being directed towards the development of the country, are wasted on political spectacles and witch hunts. Instead of building a modern state, Tusk’s government is engaged in political games that only divide society and deepen divisions.
Finances on the brink – a return to the philosophy of „there is no money and there will be none”?
The President expressed concern about the rapid increase in the budget deficit and the decline in profits of state-owned companies. He compared the current situation to the times of Tusk’s previous government, when the philosophy of „there is no money and there will be no money” was becoming a sad reality for Poles. The threat of hospital closures and financial problems in the health service are disturbing signals that indicate serious neglect of the current government in the area of public finances.
Hypocrisy in foreign policy
President Duda also sharply criticized the actions of Tusk’s government in the international arena. According to him, the withdrawal of ambassadors and replacing them with heads of institutions shows a lack of understanding and weakens Poland’s position in relations with key partners. In addition, the defense of borders was once considered by the government to be a „crime against humanity”, and now these same politicians want to represent Poland in key diplomatic positions. The hypocrisy and lack of coherence in the foreign policy of the current authorities undermine the credibility of our country.
President Duda’s address was a strong signal to Tusk’s government. Duda not only exposed the hypocrisy and negligence of the government, but also reminded that Poles deserve reliable actions and a well-functioning democracy. Tusk’s government, instead of focusing on the development of the country and improving the lives of its citizens, devotes its energy to political games and undermining the legal order. Poles need stable governments that focus on development and security, not a return to old political patterns that end with the famous „there is no money and there will be none.”
